Coaches
At Essington Cannons, our coaches are more than just trainers - they are mentors and leaders dedicated to shaping well-rounded athletes. They foster skills, discipline, and sportsmanship, guiding players on and off the court.
Who can coach?
We are keen to talk to anyone with a passion for basketball, a commitment to player development and a desire to contribute to our community about whether they would suit one of our coaching roles.
Our coaches range from
-professional trained basketball coaches
-parents and friends who have coached amateur/junior teams
-experienced players with an interest in supporting the club
-parents and older teens wanting to develop coaching skills
All coaches must be willing to
-
show or obtain a Working With Children card
-
register as a Cannons coach on GameDay
-
wear club uniform
-
follow club Managers and Coaches guide
-
participate in peer review, support and development

Coaching Development
In 2025 we will be reinvigorating our Coach Development Program to provide ongoing support, offering coaching training, resources and mentorship opportunities. This will ensure our coaches are equipped with techniques and strategies to inspire every player, while also advancing their own professional development.
We have partnered with Duke of Edinburgh to become a Duke4Sport organisation.
Junior coaches can use their playing, coaching and development time to count towards their Duke's Award.
